Schrödinger’s Hairball is Coming Up!

Posted on June 13, 2018 by Maya Bohnhoff

A note from Chef Jeff Vader, All-Powerful God of Biscuits:

Maya and I are getting close to releasing Schrödinger’s Hairball, our new album of classic rock parodies. I’ve worked pretty hard recording and producing this, but what really makes it fun and special for me are all the contributions other people have made. One person in particular has been crucial in making this album what it is, my long time musical partner Maya. We’ve been creating music together for almost 40 years now, and I still feel lucky I get to work with her.

Those of you who have been fortunate enough to hear her sing know that Maya has a beautiful voice, with perfect control. She can belt out a rock or blues song, or sing a delicate ballad or folk song with equal skill. On this album, she has done an amazing job of adopting the vocal styles of the various singers of the original songs we are parodying. Considering that they are all male singers, it’s particularly impressive. Whether it’s Sting, Freddie Mercury, Michael Stipe, Peter Gabriel, etc., she manages to bring all her unique vocal gifts to each song, while adding little touches that recall the original singers.

Note: That the image accompanying this post is the paper-tablecloth scribble Maya made at a family gathering that started the cover creation process.

New Bohnhoff Parody Album in Progress

We have begun work on a new parody album, title TBD. I’m hoping to be able to post progress reports here about progress thereon.

The final lineup of songs hasn’t been decided yet, but I can tell you what we’ve got on the cooktop.

We have tracked two complete songs! Two wit:

“The Counselor” (ttto a well-known Billy Joel song). Subject matter: Counselor Troi, because, by golly, that girl deserves her own filk song. The song features the harmonica chops of the amazingly talented Beckett Gladney, who designed the album art for I Remember the Rain.

“Won’t Get Fooled Again” now also exists as a complete parody of the hard-rocking version by The Who. Our previous version was unplugged. Continue reading →
